This is an in character thread, please roleplay/fluff your post accordingly.

Players may post as many times as they like in this thread, and are encouraged to RP heavily here. Everyone in the game benefits from actively engaged roleplayers. The game will be as fun as the community makes it.

SETTING INFO:

Sci-fi/Fantasy, Human race only though. Space opera/soft sci-fi, not hard sci-fi.

Get some inspiration from:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emperor_of_the_Fading_Suns

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Morrowind#Setting

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dune_%28novel%29

"Set in a future medieval-style empire built on the remains of a previous, more sophisticated galaxy-spanning human civilization made possible by ancient "gates", themselves the relics of an even older, not necessarily human civilization. Power is administered by noble houses, guilds and by the monolithic Holy Church. Psionic powers exist but psionicists are often hunted down and killed by the Church (or led back to orthodoxy and enrolled in the Church's ranks). The Church is also capable of producing miracles through Theurgic rites, a kind of divine sorcery. Players take the roles of members of the aristocracy, of the various merchant guilds or of a number of religious sects."

The idea is that rather than nations, players take on the role of one of the noble Houses, vying for power, and eventually the vacant Imperial throne. This game isn't having the players as Nations as much as it is as Noble Houses, or Powerful Merchant Guilds, or a Religious Sects.

Brothers of The Fist

Like all large bodies of people, the planet Mars had those who would much rather play games than submit themselves to the worship of any particular god, or the obedience to any particular order.
It was known and accepted that The Church disapproved of any material pertaining to younger women, and this created a comfortable (if somewhat illegal) underground base for the trading of such materials - but such censorship never stays confined for long.
The Church had recently tried its hands at censorship of Games. All games. No matter what type, cause, theme, or setting - the Church wanted to restrict the flow of not only physical assets relating to the games themselves, but any related information, and tried to keep Gamers out of contact with each-other as much as possible by applying entirely unrealistic 'taxes' to any place where they might be held.
Games continued in secret, but without any central access to materials or any way to converse over long distances, the community became effectively stifled. Stifled and angry.

Harry "The Fist" Bourne already had dealings with addictions of every kind - he profited immensely off trafficking any contraband, and was known for his work in the area.
He saw in the gamers an opportunity.
"An addiction as any other, and they're willing to fight for it. But these ain't yer ordinary addicts. They've got organisation. They're willing to work. And most importantly their brains and bodies are still workin'. With the rest of the land hatin' 'em, I reckon we can get a REAL loyal workforce outta these guys."
"Yeah. Construct cellars and basements, and have the guards 'overlook' their little gatherin's. Let 'em ship all the contraband they want, and give 'em free access to anyone who might wanna get on on their games. Let the culture grow, and cultivate it in its many forms. More workers for us."
"The only catch is that these guys gotta be completely loyal, and when the time comes, they gotta drop their dice and pick up their weapons. It's only fair for givin' 'em freedom to explore their addiction."

Harry, himself being a Lord of a mostly average House, arranged to have the guards in his areas simply 'overlook' any addictive cultures that entered his territory, and to supply (at a cost, of course) them with any substances they might need. The only favor they needed to pay in return? Spreadin' their culture to as many lands as possible.
He called this underground organisation the "Brothers of the Fist" - named after his lovely self, of course - and ensured everyone had a safe basement for all their jailbaitin', gamin' needs. And if they needed to buy a little pick-me-up to make them feel good? All the better.

Backed by the corrupt house lord Harry "The Fist" Bourne, who managed things through his string of lackeys, the underground organisation of the gamers who were tired of this bullshit of 'copyright', 'censorship' and 'protecting children' thrived through basements, cellars, and hidden places everywhere - slowly extending Harry's sphere of influence.
They called themselves "The Brothers of The Fist".

-New nation: Brothers of the fist
-Industry: Trafficking of contraband (incl. drugs, pornography, censored information, and any 'games' the church might take offense to.)
-Loyal people: Those addicted to said drugs, porn, information, and games.
-Goal: To get a stake in every land on the planet
-Enemies: Those who think religion should come before life's vices.
-Leader: Harry Bourne, most commonly known as "The Fist".

The Zicom Initiate was formed after the crisis of 1289 new standard years

during this time of strife there were three major houses on Mars, each controlling a large portion of land, each controlling a large army. There was a time when atomics flew over Mars, what was left was COMMUNISTS the Zicom Initiate was formed from one of there nations, those who formed the Zicom Initiate believed in the ability to trade freely.... War followed as the Communists tried to take back what they thought was theirs, but freedom prevailed as each of the nations in the Commentern (alliance of communist pigs) turned on each other... soon after that all of communism had been purged from the land with either there own atomics, or the free men alliance, this consisted of the house of Zicom, The House of Illumin, and the House of Zorsica. The war was long and bloody, but in the end the free alliance won the day. All of those present swore there allegiance to Zicom and then the Great house of Zicom was created.

Now for some current history,

The House of Zicom is a trader at first and a pacifist at heart, they worry about the bottom dollar and how it will affect trading, they view war as a mindless struggle when they must deal with trade, the true war of this age... they trade in commercial goods, chemicals, and jewelry. The Zicom Initiate is open to all nations, and open to all trading. Our Glorious Leader is, KANE

4 The Order of the Hunt on Mon May 10, 2010 12:54 pm

The Order of the Hunt
Nation Description:
Founded many decades ago by General Randu, the members of the Order of the Hunt are the descendants of the old empire's zirkal, the enhanced shock troops known as the Emperor's wolves, the sharp axe that cuts down his foes.

The Great Hunter's Hall is built in the ruins of a military base and it's training facilities are second to none on Mars. It is rumored that withing the depths of the Hall are hidden facilities that retain the knowledge once used to give the zirkal strength and stamina beyond normal men, and indeed the members of the Order show much of the power and stamina of their fabled ancestors. For a certainty, many powerful weapons of the old days are kept in it's armories, and carried by the Order's forces when they take the field.

The symbol and sidearm of the order is the battle axe. Though a member of the order is expected to master all weapons, they keep their axe with them at all times as the sign of their commitment to the order. Indeed if one loses their axe they will typically volunteer for a suicidal task to try to reclaim their sworn word and earn a replacement. These axes are nigh indestructible and rumored to be able to cut through almost any material Upon reaching his manhood an initiate must undergo a trial of acceptance, surviving for 100 days with only his battle axe and his wits, then swear a vow of absolute loyalty to order, cutting his arms with his axe to seal the oath.

While the Order does not play the great game, or seek territorial position off it's island, neither is it a silent observer of the nobles' struggle for power. The oath of it's members require that they prove that none can match their abilities or valor in combat. Those nobles seeking war frequently purchase the support of the Order's battalions, and training in the great hall for their house troops.

It is rumored that the Order is awaiting the rise of a noble deserving of the vacant throne. Their forces frequently attack the house troops of those who would claim the empty crown in what is rumored to be a test of their worth, if so, then none have yet passed it. Perhaps this is best, as if true, the one who passes this test would gain powerful backing in the quest for the Great Throne.

A public message posted in markets and trading centers throughout the land:
Let those who would desire victory in battle, superiority in warfare, send a message bird to the Master of the Order of the Hunt. Our battalions are unmatched on the battlefield, and valuable training and discipline(resource a) is available for those who are wise enough to hire us.

House Illumin is one of the oldest houses, able to trace ancestry back until the great collapse. The House's holdings span the gap between the fertile northern plains and the great southern marsh. House Illumin have a plantation based aristocracy, utilizing slavery and actively participating in the Martian Slave-trade.

Thousands of wretched captives pass through the infamous slave-pens of Fearos, the Illumin "capital", from whence most find an early death on the plantations which surround that ill-omened city.

House Illumin has a loose affiliation with the church, but is privately unafraid of doing business with the black market. House Illumin has accumulated much wealth in its long history, and is rumored to be fantastically wealthy. Lords and Ladies spare no expense on extravagance whilst slaves toil in the fields.

The House Illumin agrarian aristocracy also has a fair share of free farmers, herders, and fishermen, who are ruled over by the House council.

The Black Organization has a history shrouded in secret. They have been very quiet the last few years, but no one has quite forgotten them. Founded somewhere around ten years ago, they've specialized in the drug trade for almost the entirety of their existence, but they're never afraid to dip into other areas of crime.

Led by the enigmatic Mr. Black, a nobleman whose face has never been seen by anyone outside his Inner Circle, they've been working under the radar of the Church for years. Operating on an island in the great ocean of Mars, the Organization has had little trouble avoiding those who don't seek their services. However, rumors abound of the paramilitary forces, the Black Knights, recruiting from the streets at a never-before-seen rate. Some think Mr. Black himself might be vying for the throne, others say he's just preparing for a war he sees as inevitable. The truth is unknowable to outsiders.

The Hooded Brothers: The Hooded Brothers are a organization of, secretive "Hoods", each "Hood" is like a chapter, each new land is rewarded with there own chapter, and awarded their own animal, to inspire the "Hoods" men. Representatives from each "Hood" will meet at the "Hall of the Justices" where they discuss there "Hoods" and needs. There is a highly organized armed forces for the Hooded Brothers except for there Main lands which is a league of once assassins and mercenaries who are trusted to be the most elite warriors of the Brothers.

Dictator Tory was fully aware of the Hooded Brothers, and harbored them inside of the territories of the NPU. When the NPU fell under economic pressure, The Hooded Brothers broke of and lived as Nomads for about two years, and moved south. Now the Brother Hood is leaded by Lord Adrian.

The seal of the Nation is a crouched Wolf, a scroll in its mouth and a sword looming over its head. Right next to the sword is a Holy Cross, and the border is lined with this saying. "Ledo ferreus , sermo mollis , quod teneo quam scribo , vinco mucro quod adficio pluma". Meaning “Hit hard, talk soft, and know how to write, master the sword and drain the feather.”

The Hooded Brothers wish to expand, trade and provide their chapters along with there allies. Mostly increase economics so they don’t befall the same fate as there protectors. Markets and trading post are extremely common in the new nation, but it's agents remained hooded, and hidden from society, more then 3/10 of the population has some part in the government. Making it large but easy to handle.

"'arry, when exactly should the docks at 226 be constructed?"
"Yesterday, Benjamin. We've got some 'interests' overseas and we need a proper shipping port, with proper Customs, so that we can 'confiscate' any materials of interest to us enterin' the country.
"Yes 'arry. But 'ow are we gonna send any drugs overseas if they're goin' through customs?"
"Well Benjamin, let me put it this way. Terry, the head of security, has a thing for large breasted women. I overlook a shipment of pornography right to his doorstep, he overlooks the shipment of drugs through customs. Johnathon, the Investigations chief of sector 226, has a thing for the ol' amphetamines. So I keep him topped up, he makes sure I have no trouble. And William? Chief dockhand? You don't wanna know what shit he's into, Benjamin. But safe to say he's in with us, and we won't have any trouble gettin' anything through."
"Just how far does your reach carry, 'arry?"
"Far enough, Benjamin."
"Right, 'arry."

"Roight. You lads. We have one - solid shipment of Cocaine - here. I want it loaded onto an unmarked vessel and sent south as soon as the shipment from Zicom arrives. And do note that it does 'ave to be EXACTLY one shipment. William?"
"Year, Boss?"
The Fist handed William a switchblade.
"I'm givin' you free reign to cut the balls off of anyone AND everyone you see skimmin' stuff off the top. 'Cause if this shipment gets to Zicom and it's missing a few kilograms, they're not gonna be happy. And, they're gonna come after me. Then -I- won't be happy. And if I'm not happy as a result of your performance, I'm gonna come after you."
"Keep your business clean - well, clean as is practical - and we're not gonna have any problems. Kane isn't a man to be fucked with, William, and it's up to you to ensure your crack-addled dockworkers don't fuck with his goods."
"Right boss."
"Now get it loaded. There's only twenty-four hours in the day and I still need my beauty sleep."

The fist has recently confiscated a large shipment of Benzene comin' into its territories from the Zicom Initiate. This shipment has been added to the lord's stockpile, where it is under no risk of being sold and distributed to the populace *cough*, so says I.
These undercover drug runners then went down the river with some Cocaine in return. The fist sent his guards to try to stop the drug runners, but again, the guards turned up empty. Rumors that The Fist had a hand in ensurin' the guards' failure are entirely unfounded, and you can ask 'em yourself - they're prob'ly enjoyin' some benzene and cocaine in the Lion's Den at 226.

tl;dr:
Fist sends c to Zicom
Zicom sends b to Fist

this is confirmed, also with our shipment of c, it will be stockpiled in a secret bunker. and slowly and secretly shipped to minorities in the inner cities, to cause a sense of complacency.

You wanna come roll some dice at the Games Hall in 226, Kane?
We've recently decorated the place with a "Battle Axe" motif, to better 'arbor a sense of competitive spirit. We've got blackjack, D&D, risk, roulette, every drug under the sun except ecstasy, and prostitutes. Though admittedly, the prostitutes tend to stay away from the D&D table.

I Kane would like to come enjoy your fine establishment, but as I look at my scheduler I have noticed i am not free for a consecutive weekend for one full year... but i can chalk you in for Aug of next standard year, can you consider this a reservation?

We'll consider it a reservation if the place is still standin'. But do note that, dependin' on how the year unfolds, we might have some trouble supplyin' the hookers.

Just to give you lads a bit of an idea of how the campaign world is lookin', right now we've got:
A trafficker in Contraband, based off a british mob boss.
An amoral trader in all resources for whom the bottom line is #1.
A bourgeois slave trader.
A shady secret society of drug traders.
A league of assassins and mercenaries who favor hooded cloaks.
and A race of warrior people intent on testing the strength of those around them.

Our campaign, lads, has just shifted to Lawful Evil.

A slave uprising is rapidly quelled in the southwest, as a band of forty slaves attempted to seize weaponry and escape into the great marsh.

To the north, a large section of fertile farmland is purchased from the struggling throne as it seeks to refill its coffers after the decline and death of the emperor and subsequent rebellions. House Illumin is quick to seize the opportunity for colonization. House Illumin has agreed to purchase further lands to the north, but has yet to consummate the deal.

An emissary is sent to our age-old ally House Zicam, seeking trade, and to discuss the vacant throne. House Illumin proposes a trade of its "d" for some "e", and brings plentiful samples of our finest "d" crop to give away to the Zicam noblemen. (Beautiful, isn't she? Sexual prime, these ones.)

Situated along a stretch of coast is the enigmatic Sect of Light, a quiet aggregate of scholars, monks and everyone in between. Quiet trade comes and goes to and from the Sect's land, trading trinkets to far-off villages and occasionally other houses. Led by a Council of Ten, The Sect is so named for its interest- and some would say, obsession- with astronomy. Their quiet nature has not let much information regarding why they scan the skies slip; some say they search for other human remnants, while others say they comb the skies to catch a glimpse of extraterrestrials. Some hardliners in the Church claim dark magic is involved, that the Sect is in communion with the Dark. Perhaps the biggest question of all is why the Sect never sets its lenses to the Homeworld.

Regardless, the truth is not known. While outwardly they appear as a weak and quirky collection of pushabouts, the Sect has been known to defend their land ferociously. The Defenders, the Sect's official militia, are a group of loyal, if undertrained, warriors that patrol and protect the Sect.

The Glass Temple, as it is called by the many plebs who live around it, is the seat of the Sect's power; a massive observatory situated on a plateau overlooking the sea. The name derives from the many telescopic lenses fitted to the Temple, often reflecting light in many different directions. Access is restricted to all but the scholarly caste- astronomers, researchers, librarians, and the like. Rumors implicate a psionic presence within the Temple, though such talk is largely unsubstantiated.

Nestled snugly at the base of Mt Helena the House of Anralette is a newcomer to the great gambit for Mars. At its best House Anralette carries itself with fiery passion and an unrelenting pursuit for excellence. At its worst it is brutally dogmatic and heavy handed.

The head of the Anralette House is Torrem Anralette, his immediate successor is his son; Gile, followed by Aaron; his Cousin and oldest friend. Most internal affairs are headed up by his son which leaves plenty of time for Torrem to engage in other matters of state.

Anralette prides itself on its scientific and military might, usually hand in hand they work, with recent works being primitive power armour which is boasted to be able to sustain heavy fire from 'most modern operational weapons'. Whether this is just propaganda or a dangerous truth is more than up for debate.

House of Oaen is one of the other original houses, long time friends of the House Illumin. We are decended from the hill people who lived here pre-fallout. We are a hardy people, stubborn by nature. House oaen has a steady supply of "c" a strong herb which we have found to make great ale.(good in the pipe as well) We have developed a reputation for drunkards and hot-heads, but those are malicious rumors, as we hardly drink the products of "c". The main religion of the House of Oaen, is an ancient and venerated tradition of druidism. We tolerate multiple religions but will not stand for religuos bullying of our people. Our military is one of the most disciplined in the world. They have won many awards of excellence in both combat and drill.

House of Oaen symbol: Celtic cross that is made of vines.
Economy: Capitalist society, manly focuses on the brewing and exporting of raw *c*
Military: Army and Navy, consisting of volunteer and criminals forced into penal units.
Religion:Druidism
Enemies: Oppressive religous members, and those who would seek to insult us.

The Hooded Brothers have decided that they must expand to newer lands and start more chapters for there militaristic and political branches. The Sect of Light

A series of large outlaw raids hit a handful of nearby coastal regions (46, 45, 43, 42). At highest risk were the vital hydroponics greenhouses, and, by extension, the very lifeblood of the area as well as trade along the entire coastline.

As such, the Council of Ten elects for direct intervention. Sect Defenders manage to secure a single area overnight (46). They arrive too late for many; local leaders are found dead, towns found in shambles, and people found without hope. The weary locals accept Sect leadership with little resistance. There remain ongoing plans for securing the rest of the affected regions (45, 43, 42) in the coming weeks.

  • A bounty is placed throughout the lands on any information leading to the capture of the raider leader, "Springy".

  • Sect traders send word to other houses that small-scale mining within Sect territory has revealed substantial deposits of copper, and as such, the Sect is open to trade negotiation.

  • The Temple Observatory announces the discovery of LIGHTNW5344, an extrasolar body approximately twelve light-years from Mars. This is notable in being one of very few ice worlds (that aren't satellites) the Sect has discovered in its history.

The Hooded Brothers send their support to the Sect of Light in the form of fifteen members of the Hooded Brothers defense force or "The Holy Shrines men". These men also carry a message with them, written by the members of the "Hall of Justices".

"Dear members of the Council of Ten,
We have sent these fifteen men to help you find the man called "Springy" and find a proper resolve to his "Sentence". These men have the words of our Oath carved into their foreheads, meaning they are forever loyal to the Hooded Brothers, but will serve you until told to cease. Please take this offering of our finest as a gift, for they will find your man.

Clerical Disaster!

Currently House Anralette is undergoing extensive expansion and civic construction over Mt Helena but all of this may come to a halt as a string of incredible blunders by House Administration has cost both time and resources. Many of the various house expansion projects were given not enough or completely irrelevant equipment

'Goods have been shipped all over the place! What the hell is our optronics department supposed to do with sixty seven chainsaws!?' Says Karl Lenword, Electronic Warfare Chief.

Gile Anralette said that these mishaps will not deter Anralette expansion and urged that people look to all the good they have done so far to the East and North of Mt Helena. Many critics argue that the only reason Anralette managed to even finish any colonisation at all was because of the heavy 'Arrival Tithe' collected by the government at the start of this cycle. Torrem was unavailable for comment as he is away on a 'diplomatic mission' to the far North but his Mentat staff have said it will be of his utmost concern when he returns.

Well, The Hooded Brothers are happy from their gift and are suppling to their traders at the moment. Thay are having neutral feelings about no agreement on the land, but are now focasing on the three new territories, and there new chapter names. They are looking for trade agreements so they can expand into more territories, and rightly supplied.
